Tesla to Showcase Robotaxi in China Amid Sales Challenges
Tesla shares gained momentum as the electric vehicle Maker prepares to unveil its Cybercab robotaxi at the China International Import Expo (CIIE) next week. The event marks Tesla's return to China's major trade fairs after skipping two key Shanghai events in recent years.
The company framed its participation as a demonstration of AI integration into real-world applications, claiming to redefine labor, transportation, and energy sectors. This comes as Tesla faces intensifying competition in China, with mainland sales declining 6% year-over-year for the first three quarters of 2025.
Domestic rivals like Xpeng continue to pressure Tesla's market position, though the company reported a modest 2.8% increase in China-made EV sales recently. The robotaxi debut represents Tesla's attempt to regain technological leadership in its second-largest market.
